Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death
In the end, the only political systems that seem to work are those based on freedom. The Inner World leaders of the Terran Federation seem to have forgotten this simple truth. After fighting the Khanate—with the Fringe Worlds to supply the raw material and the fighting men—the Inner Worlds found it hard to give up the powers they had seized during the war. So they decided not to—rather than allow the rapidly expanding Fringe Worlds representation in the Federation, they are inviting the Khanate in, to keep the colonial upstarts in their place. The Fringers have only one answer to that

A lifetime military history buff, David Weber has carried his interest in history into his fiction. In the New York Times best selling Honor Harrington series, the spirit of both C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower and history's Admiral Nelson are evident. With over five million copies of his books in print, David Weber is the fastest rising star in the Science Fiction universe. His Honor Harrington series boasts over 3 million copies in print, and Weber has had over thirteen of his titles on The New York Times Best Seller List. War of Honor, book 10 in the series appeared on over twelve Best Seller lists, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA TODAY.
While he is best known for his spirited, modern-minded space operas, he has also developed a fantasy series, of which two books have been published Oath of Swords and The War God's Own. David's solo work also includes three novels of the "Dahak" series, and the stand alone novels Path of the Fury and The Excalibur Alternative.
Weber's first published novels grew out of his work as a war game designer for the Task Force game Starfire. With collaborator Steve White, Weber has written four novels set in that universe Insurrection, Crusade, In Death Ground, and The Shiva Option.
Recent bestsellers in planetary adventures also include the teamwork of John Ringo in the best selling Empire of Man series where the titles March Upcountry, March to the Sea, March to the Stars and We Few have made appearances on The New York Times List.
Weber's proliferation continues with author Eric Flint, where they joined forces in the Best Selling "Ring of Fire" alternate history series, for 1634 The Baltic War, coming in May.
A popular guest at science fiction conventions, Weber makes his home in South Carolina with his wife Sharon, three children and a passel of dogs.
Insurrection Starfire Book 2 eBook David Weber Steve White
This is the first David Weber/ Steve White book I've read and I must say at the outset that I enjoyed it. I've never read much military sci-fi so I enjoyed the battle scenes as I would have enjoyed good action scenes of any novel. What prevents me from giving this book five stars is the lackluster story. The character perspectives in the beginning of the book suddenly change in the middle and are not picked up again until the end. While some of the conflict was somewhat interesting, I never felt totally gripped by it as I ought to have been if the conflict between the Innerworlds and the Fringe worlds were explained a little better rather then just the generic knowledge that the Federation has crafted trade policy to benefit the Innerworlds over the Fringe worlds. I think an opportunity was missed to show how deep sectional divides could be in this particular 'nation.' I liked how the story skirted the line between an analogy to the American Revolutary War and also to the American Civil War without turning into a rehash of either war. Yes, the Terran Republic models their Declaration off of the Declaration of Independence but other than that, the conflict was really different from any historical analogue. I actually thought of it more like a Civil War with a Southern victory minus the slavery issue. At least that's what popped into my mind. In any case, the story was decent to fairly good and I loved the action so I recommend this book as a quick, fun read.Product details

Insurrection Starfire Book 2 eBook David Weber Steve White Reviews
David Weber is my favorite living author. I have read everything he has published and will continue to do so when they appear. I absolutely love everything about the Honorverse and at some point plan on going back to the beginning (On Basilisk Station) and reading the entire Honor Harrington series from the beginning.
It was enjoyable reading the Insurrection. The books started out a bit slow but as true to earlier books written by David Weber and Steve White the pace picked up and was "a very good read!". I heartedly recommend the Insurrection to anyone as an exciting well written book and look forward to reading any and all books in the Starfire Book series.
Buy it, read it, and enjoy!
These two writers are exceptional alone but together they give something that is greater than their sum together. Outstanding. When you have read as many great writers I have it is remarkable to find others that continue carrying the torch. Thank you David and Steve. May God bless you both and that you will bless us with more of the same. Live long and prosper.
I must like this book. I discovered I had a copy already. However, with David Weber, Steve White, and some of the other Baens writers, it is easy to want them all and to forget which to get. I don't regret it. It is an excellent book, and I will use it in trade for one of the ones I don't have.
these guys combine the best of sociopolitical and military with character development and adventure. They are both great writers anytime.
I am not a big fan of most David Weber work, as it mainly consists of upstanding people who always do the right thing, and never die because they choose heroism. Likewise, the villains are generally obviously evil people who get what's coming to them.
This book is different. It follows the rebellion of "fringer" worlds from a democratic government that denies them equal representation. There are few bad guys, and upstanding characters exist on both sides in abundance. Characters die as a result of their heroic, but dangerous choices.
Another big focus of this focus of this book is weapons development, and communications. As the war progresses, each side develops new weapons, and immediately after seeing a new weapon, work on ways to counter it. Also being able to get information on the enemy, and to friends often makes the difference between victory and defeat in this war.
This is book is great, and is a part of an excellent series. "In Death Ground" and "The Shiva Option" are two other outstanding books in the series. "The Crusade" is not quite as good. If you are looking for a space military book that is more "realistic" and less bogged down with hero worship than the typical space opera fare, this book is for you.
DW has continued to write series after series that keep you guessing from one to the next. In the 2nd novel he brings forth the summation that the Earth and other planets have been secure for to long. He wakes them up. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER
This book is set in the same universe as "In Death Ground" and "The Shiva Option". It is a universe in which interstellar travel is available only by means of warp points between star systems. The Federation is a government of hundreds of human colonies, some old and rich and others young and poor. But the older colonies initially are unfairly exploiting the newer colonies.
As a result of political betrayals and an assassination, the newer colonies try to secede. The Federation sends the Navy to suppress the rebels. As a result of atrocities against civilians and mutinies aboard warships, a full blown civil war breaks out, with the Fringe initially holding its own against the Core Worlds.
As the plot follows leaders on both sides, we begin to sympathize both with rebel leaders and Federation patriots, as both sides suffer losses of life. The suspense builds as a plot wrinkle develops that could tilt the balance of power decisively to one side.
Likable characters struggling with political intrigue, assassinations, rebellion, mutinies, spies, and space battles What more could we ask of a military sci-fi novel?
