I just finished reading Sleep of the Just, by Tory M. LaPrath and wanted to say that it's a great action/adventure novel that I'll recommend to my friends.I enjoyed the style of the book - fast paced and easy to read, with short chapters so I felt like I could get to the next turn of events before I had to put the book down to take care of my kids again!
I loved the characters. The good guys made me laugh out loud with their quips and jibes at each other. I could tell I was getting drawn into the action when I started to worry about them. With a deadly foreigner, a smooth criminal, and a crazy, crusty-old millionaire there were no shortage of bad guys for me to hate.
I had to pick my jaw up off the floor repeatedly due to the ample supply of surprises and plot twists. There were several times I had to reread a passage, thinking, "That did not just happen!"
Not only was it a fun read, the writer clearly knows a lot about archeology and weaponry, so I learned some things, too.
I can't wait to dig into the next book in the series.

This is an engaging action packed story. Never a dull moment. It ends with a surprise that will make you anxious to read the next book.
I just finished Sleep of the Just. I really liked it. Good a story line, good action that kept me interested. There were a couple times I didn't want to put it down. I did have a little bit of difficulty keeping some of the characters straight and remembering who some of the characters were. I'm looking forward to the next one.
i loved this book! just finished reading it, and wish it hadnt ended. the scene where.... with their head found floating... super intense! i cant seem to write a review without wanting to spoil it. this has it all, a love story, comraderie, heartbreaking losses, and a man and his son... even some history... touching as well as just fluff action. its a full tale to enjoy. highly recommended!
A precisely plotted adventure with enough jolts to give you whiplash, though never does the tale sacrifice adventure for cheap action. Sometimes a good book is just that, and this is well worth diving into for a lazy day where a little literary adrenalin is needed. Excellent!
Tory LaPrath has crafted an action adventure thriller with surprises that keep you turning the pages all the way to the end.
The FACET team he's created is great with brains, brawn and camaraderie that makes me want to be a part of this team. This story, The Sleep of the Just, is anything but sleepy.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Sleep of the Just is a great story with plenty of action and interesting characters (on both sides of the fence). Once the story takes off, there's no putting it down. I highly recommend it to thriller and action lovers, and hope there's a sequel in the works.
LaPrath does a good job with his first novel. I can hardly wait for the second. Much like Patterson, or shows such as CSI, the focus is more on the FACET team and their job responsibilities than anyone elses. There are great twists. The plot moves rapidly, and it is an easy read. As a writer, I have to admit the ending was superb. After reading Patterson's The Postcard Killers, which had a terrible denouement, it was impressive to see a new writer pull off a very good one. The only disappointing part of the novel is that I don't feel like I could get close and feel anything for the characters. While LaPrath pulls all elements together from the beginning of the book into the final arc of it, there still seems to be something lacking. I also had a hard time keeping the FACET members categorized. Even though height and weight may seem like it helps the reader remember the characters, it's more details than that which eventually stick with the reader. LaPrath needs to get his readers more emotionally involved in the characters lives so we can feel something for them.
